Sri Lanka CERT|CC conducted Information security awareness sessions for all the SOS children villages in Sri Lanka upon the request made by Mr. Lasantha Weligamage, the Assistant Director of SOS Youth Facility, Piliyandala. The awareness sessions took place in Galle, Piliyandala, Nuwara Eliya, Monaragala, Anuradhapura and Jaffna.
First awareness session was conducted for Galle SOS children village on August 8th 2016. Similar sessions were conducted in Piliyandala SOS village and Nuwara Eliya SOS village in the same week. Last 3 sessions were conducted in Moneragala, Jaffna and Anuradhapura on 25th, 26th and 28th of August respectively.
The sessions were mainly targeted at Kids above 13 years old and mainly discussed points were Information Security Risks & Threats, Social media, Internet best practices and tips on avoiding cyber predator which are timely relevant topics for the kids who use internet.
Participants are from different age levels, Teenagers, Care taking mothers, SOS officials including village directors participated for the sessions. The response for these sessions was outstanding as the audience was asking many questions that they have faced in day to day life while using Internet and other electronic apparatus.
