EDUCSIRT stands for Education Computer Security Incident Response Team. With the increase of Internet related threats to school students it is of utmost importance that the education sector has its own CERT to coordinate and respond to information security incidents. Sri Lanka CERT|CC has helped to establish a FINCSIRT to look after the financial sector in the country to effectively respond to information security incidents. To establish the EduCSIRT Sri Lanka CERT|CC is closely working together with the Ministry of Education. 

By establishing the EduCSIRT the following objectives will be achieved.

  1. 1. A dedicated body to effectively respond to Information Security Incidents in the education sector
  2. 2. Training of ICT teachers by Sri Lanka CERT|CC on Internet Safety and related threats to educate the fellow students
  3. 3. Setting up a dedicated hotline to report/respond to Internet related threats occurring at schools
  4. 4. Minimize social media related threats that are on the rise


The resource personals from Sri Lanka CERT|CC to conduct the training of train the trainers program. The training will be provided to ICT teachers of schools across the country. ICTA and the ministry of education has coordinated this program. The training is a 4 days residential training and already 8 editions have been completed. Currently a total of 400 ICT teachers representing multiple districts have been trained over the period of 2 years. The plan is to train 700 ICT teachers by the end 2018. There will be a website dedicated to Internet Safety which has to be developed and launched for EDUCSIRT. The necessary content would be provided by Sri Lanka CERT|CC. The hosting and development is to be done by the Ministry of Education. Also a hotline is already established at Ministry of Education for EduCSIRT. Very first EduCSIRT training program was conducted in 2016 September 12th to September 15th at Hotel Mirage Colombo as a 4 days residential training.
